You’ll Be the Death of Me by Karen M. McManus

My opinion in three sentences:

It’s not the strongest of McManus’ works and (to be completely honest) is the same old formula that’s beginning to get a little of old. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy it – the usual standards of twists and turns were there alongside a readable narrations style. However, many of the characters felt like carbon copies of those from previous books, and the pacing made things hard-going at first.

(Without spoiling anything) the best bit:

It was a fun little mystery and the second half definitely showcased McManus’ potential and prowess when it comes to thrills and plot twists. There are points that will keep you guessing until their ultimate resolution, and even then you’ll find yourself proved wrong – an essential ingredient for any mystery novel, in my opinion.

A warning for the book:

Much as with McManus’ previous novel this year, this is a tale of two halves – the first is slow and offers little relevant to the overall plotline, whilst the second is fast-paced, twisting, and a strong exhibition of McManus’ talent. Getting that far, however, is no mean feat, so I wouldn’t say it’s a good shout if you’re in a reading slump or looking to be gripped from page one…
